Genius Junior

They have the small radio on. The faraway note echoes; the ringing gleam of the guitar-bass-drums carries over the maps. Shadows cast on the acres of fertile pop fields. The band can be glimpsed in the jittery limelight of the radio in flames, frugally reconstituting the endless tip-toeing of littered beats.

Elbowing the scene, genius, like pop, pulls crazily upstream. The gestures of the economical note. Stepping on to the weaving road, remembering where they landed and certain that even Einstein left the past behind. And that road is filled with siren-drunk sailors, fresh from the streaming fields, whose crafts capsized on the shoals of recast radio. Now simply riding the wake of the band as they duck and swirl, playing down the road, to the well of smiling hits.
