What do you get when you take two musicians, on the cusp of
30, too jaded and cynical to pay homage to whatever new hybrid genre the
hipster crowd blindly embraces weekly, patting themselves on the back for
being so cool and forward looking, yet too passionate and involved to
mindlessly embrace MTVs and corporate "alternative" radios
chokehold on an unsuspecting public, or complain foolishly that
"theres no good music out there." Noise from the fallen
world, indeed!

Ripple
Effect is Brian Roach and Marc Waithe. Friends since high school, Roach
& Waithe have always shared a cynical disdain for, well, almost
everything! Both share a pleasure in unearthing new and interesting music
and sounds, not to slavishly follow the cool crowd, but for their own
genuine pleasure. For both, finding the intelligent dance music genre was
their Holy Grail. Warp Records, Autechre, The
Orb, Banco de Gaia, Children of the Bong and others, all seduced the
duos imagination and intellect. This, they both realized, is the music
of the future, not a fast track ticket to the good life, but a genuine and
beautiful new way of expression, a communication for the next millennium.
Starting
in 1997, Roach & Waithe came to the conclusion that, since they like
the same music anyway, they should be making their own! They began putting
tracks together in Waithes home studio, and have spent the last few
years sculpting and refining their music, painstakingly building their
sonic vision.
The
tracks spotlight a diversity of styles and range, creating a unique
collection of sounds & rhythms, synthesized into a singular vision.
Tracks range from the chaotic "Cosmic Giggle," all pummeling
beats & bass lines anchored by a maniacal laugh, to the serene beauty
and reflection of "Hypnotic Tribal Practices." "She Sounded
Like God" combines peaceful ambient water sounds & female arias
with pounding hip-hop beats, while "A Lonely Lighthouse Keeper"
summons up a feeling of coldness and beauty, sweeping away on a powerful
beat.
